Vaillant Boiler FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Vaillant boilers.

What is the Vaillant ecoTEC range?

The ecoTEC range is Vaillant's core domestic boiler line, comprising the ecoTEC pure (entry-level combi), ecoTEC plus (mid-range combi and system), ecoTEC exclusive (premium combi), and ecoTEC pro. The ecoTEC exclusive is particularly highly regarded for its efficiency and build quality. All ecoTEC models are condensing A-rated boilers with high seasonal efficiency ratings.

What warranty does a Vaillant boiler come with?

Vaillant offers a standard 2-year manufacturer's warranty, extendable to up to 10 years when installed by a Vaillant Advanced Installer. Halo Heating engineers are Vaillant Advanced Installers, meaning our customers receive the maximum warranty. The extended warranty is subject to registration with Vaillant within the specified timeframe after installation.

Are Vaillant spare parts easily available?

Yes. Vaillant is one of the UK's top-selling boiler brands and has excellent parts availability through heating trade suppliers. Vaillant also operates its own trade counter network and a strong technical support line. Our engineers carry commonly needed Vaillant parts, helping to resolve repairs on a single visit where possible.

Does a Vaillant boiler need annual servicing?

Yes. Annual servicing by a Gas Safe registered Vaillant Advanced Installer is required to maintain the extended warranty. Vaillant servicing requires specific procedures and the use of Vaillant-approved parts to remain warranty-compliant. We provide Vaillant-compliant annual servicing and issue the relevant service documentation.

What do Vaillant fault codes mean?

Vaillant boilers display fault codes in the format F.XX or S.XX (e.g., F.22 for low water pressure, F.28 for ignition failure). The full list of codes and their meanings is in your boiler's user manual. F codes (faults) indicate the boiler has locked out; S codes (status codes) indicate the boiler's current operating state. Many faults require engineer attendance, though F.22 (low pressure) can sometimes be resolved by repressurising.

How does Vaillant compare to Worcester Bosch?

Both Worcester Bosch and Vaillant are excellent, highly reliable boiler brands and are the two most commonly installed in the UK. Vaillant tends to have a slight edge in build quality and is often preferred by engineers for its serviceability and robust heat exchangers. Worcester Bosch has a broader range and arguably stronger brand recognition with homeowners. Both offer comparable 10-year extended warranties through their accredited installer schemes. We're happy to recommend either based on your specific situation.

What are the most popular Vaillant boiler models?

The ecoTEC plus is the most widely installed Vaillant combi, available in outputs from 25kW to 38kW. The ecoTEC exclusive is the premium option with exceptional efficiency and smart thermostat integration. For system boiler applications, the ecoTEC plus system range is very popular. The ecoTEC pure is an affordable entry point for budget-conscious customers who still want Vaillant quality.

Is Vaillant compatible with smart thermostats?

Yes. Vaillant produces its own smart thermostat — the vSMART — which communicates with Vaillant boilers via the OpenTherm protocol for weather compensation and modulation. Vaillant boilers are also compatible with Nest, Hive, Tado, and Honeywell Evohome. OpenTherm-compatible thermostats provide the most precise and efficient control of your Vaillant boiler.
