Commercial Heating FAQs
Heating and gas safety questions for business owners and landlords.
What is a CP12 certificate?
A CP12 is the commercial equivalent of a domestic Gas Safety Record. It is the formal certificate issued by a Gas Safe registered engineer after inspecting commercial gas appliances and installations. The CP12 confirms that all gas appliances have been checked and found safe for use. Commercial premises must hold a valid CP12 for each gas appliance, and it must be renewed annually.
How often does a commercial gas safety inspection need to happen?
Commercial gas appliances must be inspected by a Gas Safe registered commercial engineer at least once every 12 months. Some high-use commercial appliances or those in specific sectors (such as catering) may require more frequent inspections. We offer annual maintenance contracts to ensure your certificates are never allowed to lapse.
How are commercial boilers different from domestic boilers?
Commercial boilers are designed for higher heat outputs, continuous operation, and larger heating loads. They often use different burner technology, operate at higher pressures, and require engineers with specific commercial boiler qualifications. Brands common in the commercial sector include Remeha, Ideal Commercial, Hamworthy, and Andrews Water Heaters.
Do you offer planned preventative maintenance (PPM) contracts?
Yes. We offer tailored PPM contracts for commercial clients which include scheduled inspections, servicing, filter changes, and documentation — all managed proactively so your heating systems comply with regulations and run efficiently. PPM contracts also mean faster response times when issues arise.
Can you service and maintain heating across multiple sites?
Yes. We work with commercial clients who operate multiple sites across West Sussex and the surrounding area. We provide consolidated service records and certificates to simplify compliance management across your estate. Call us to discuss a multi-site maintenance contract.
What is your emergency response time for commercial clients?
We prioritise commercial emergency call-outs and aim to attend within 4 hours during normal working hours and within 6 hours out of hours. Clients on PPM contracts receive priority emergency response. We understand that a heating failure in a commercial premises can have serious operational and legal implications.
Do you work on commercial catering equipment?
Our commercial gas engineers are qualified to work on gas supply, distribution, and commercial gas boilers and heating systems. For catering appliance work (ovens, grills, fryers), we recommend a specialist catering equipment engineer. However, we can inspect and certify the gas supply to catering equipment as part of your CP12.
What documentation will we receive after a commercial service?
After each commercial service or inspection you'll receive the relevant compliance certificates (CP12), a detailed service report for each appliance, records of any remedial actions taken or recommended, and updated maintenance history. All documentation is provided digitally for easy record-keeping.
